The Importance of the Torah to Judaism and Christianity
Ancient traditions state that Yahuah directly dictated the Torah (the first five books of the Old Testament) to Moses. The traditions further state that Yahuah did this in a very precise letter by letter sequence. Even to this day, the Jewish Rabbis consider it a crime to depart even one "Yod" from the original text, which Yahuah gave Moses some 3,500 years ago. The famous Rabbi Ishmael Ben Elisha once warned his scribe, Rabbi Meir,
Be careful in your work, my son, for your work is the work of Heaven. Omit or add a single letter and you can destroy the whole world. (Eruvin 13a)
But why would Yahuah be so particular about maintaining a precision in his Word? The Torah has always been a very special part of the Bible. Deuteronomy 9:10 teaches us the following:
And Yahuah delivered unto me two caphire stones written with the finger of Elohiym; and on them was written according to all the words, which Yahuah spoke with you in the Mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. (Deuteronomy 9:10 Cepher)
There is no other portion of scripture that was written directly by the finger of Yahuah. It is for this reason that the Jewish rabbis and scribes take such care in their study of it. The Torah is also the theological foundation that the rest of the Bible stands upon.
Yahusha (Jesus) Defeats the Devil's Temptations Using the Torah
When Yahushua resisted the temptations of the devil (Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:2-13), he quoted the Torah. He did this for a reason: the Torah is the most authoritative part of the Biblical Text! Yahushua quoted the Torah because it was His law-book and the guide for His upcoming ministry. His clain to be Ha'Meshiach could only be proven if He followed every word in the Torah!
Do you ever wonder why the devil did not quote the Torah back to Yahusha? It is because he hates the Torah or any kind of legal order that he cannot control. He knows that if people follow the Torah, he cannot worm his way into people's lives to destroy them. That is why people should strive to live a "Torah-observant" lifestyle.
We see this when we study end time prophecy and the coming end-time world government. One of the attributes of this end-time government will be the fact that it will apply a Satanically-designed legal system which will supposedly replace the Torah. When the Apostle Paul refers to the Beast using the phrase "the mystery of iniquity," he is pointing out the fact that this Beast system will attempt to replace the Torah with its own legal system. (II Thessalonians 2:7) The only religious system which will have a legal system that attempts to replace the Torah is the Sharia law system attached to the Islamic religion. The Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church only supplants the Torah, it does not attempt to replace it.
The Bible Codes in the First Century and in the Bible
The famous first century historian Josephus, wrote about a group of Jewish Prophets who could see the future by researching the texts of the Torah and the Tenach. In his chronicle The Wars of the Jews, he tells of a sect of Essene Jews living in Qumran (also called Damascus, where the Bedoiuns found the Dead Sea Scrolls) who had a special gift of prophecy. He claimed they obtained this ability from the prophet Zechariah, the last of the twelve minor Old Testament prophets.
Josephus told of their ability to assign numerical values to the various Hebrew Letters (now called Gematria). Then, using a special substitution ciphers (Josephus called it "using several sorts of purifications") they discovered that the Torah and the rest of the Old Testament had deeper levels of understanding than anyone first thought. After completing the "purification process," they applied a set of mathematical algorithms apparently taught them by the prophets. The end result was that they could predict the details of the fulfillment of a Sacred Writing, and even determine the exact time of the prophecy's fulfillment with astute accuracy. Rarely, if ever, did their predictions prove wrong. It is for this reason that the Jews continue to be so zealous in their desire to protect every letter of the Torah. (Wars of the Jews, Book 2, Chapter 8, Part 12, p. 159)
References to these prophets can be found in the New Testament. We see one example of this in Matthew 2:4-6. King Herod II, extremely nervous about a potential coming of a conquering Jewish Messiah, asked the chief priests and the scribes where the Messiah was supposed to be born. We are sure the king would have liked to have asked the Essenian prophets directly, but they apparently did not communicate with gentiles. The chief priests and the scribes gave a terse answer to King Herod I:
And they said unto him, In Beyt Lechem of Yahud: for thus it is written by the prophet, And you Beyt Lechem, in the land of Yahudah, are not the least among the princes of Yahudah: for out of you shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Yashar’el. (Matthew 2:5-6 Cepher)
They probably wanted to stay in the good graces of the Essene prophets as well. They remembered all too well what happens when you don't. Read the book of Jeremiah for details.
Yehoshua (Jesus) was well-aware of the presence of the Essene community. He made the following statement to the chief priests and scribes almost mocking their inferior abilities:
And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? (Matthew 16:3 Cepher)
The reason this statement is constructed in the form of a question is because everyone knew they they still had some rudimentary abilities discern the signs of the times as they were clearly aware of Genesis 1:14-15:
And Elohiym said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for appointed feasts, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth: and it was so. (Genesis 1:14-15 Cepher)
Their problem was that their religious applecart was being dumped by the very presence of the Messiah. They knew very well that Yehosha (Jesus) was the Messiah because they would see it from their calculations of Jeremiah's "Seventy Weeks" Prophecies, Daniel's added understanding of those prophecies, their own textual research, and apparently from some of the Essenes' own code research.
Roman Destruction of Jerusalem in C.E. 70
Despite the massacres of the Jews at Masada in 70 CE, the secrets of the Bible Codes were not lost. The Rabbis who still knew of this research wisely did not share this wisdom with the outside world. When the Rabbis did make some any kind of reference to them, they were careful not to disclose too much of their secrets. They wisely understood the implications of what they had been given by Yahuah, taking great pains not to let these secrets fall into the wrong hands.
